Individuals, couples, and family counselling are offered either in person or online.
Facing problems or life challenges can sometimes be tiring and even overwhelming. Counselling provides important support to a client whose mental well-being may be affected when dealing with issues such as:
Apart from helping to alleviate symptoms resulting from the above issues, counselling also helps clients enhance self-understanding and confidence, identify strengths and life goals that improve their general well-being.
Services include giving talks and workshops to adolescents and adults that help them reach their potential and improve their resilience to life challenges.
Fees are available upon request. In general one session lasts 50 minutes. Couples and family counselling usually last longer. Counselling can be conducted in Cantonese, English, or Putonghua.
My work approach is based on building a positive therapeutic relationship with each client in an atmosphere of safety and trust. The client receives non-judgmental support and is given space to create opportunities for deeper personal insight. Through being heard and understood, the client does not have to feel alone or helpless facing life problems. With the help of a suitable counselling approach applied, the client is empowered to find alternative ways of coping with the presenting struggle or challenge.
The therapeutic approach I frequently apply includes Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Person-Centered Therapy. CBT is extensively researched and tested to be effective that shows significant results in improving mental health. It helps people develop different perceptions of their problems, where new responses are explored for dealing with unresolved issues.
In addition, other techniques and skills are incorporated into counselling whenever appropriate such as mindfulness relaxation technique, and skills for breaking communication barriers.
Life challenges can be immense in today's world. It is always useful for us to raise our self-awareness, improve knowledge that safeguards our mental well-being. Evidence-based intervention, CBT, has helped many in the past decades to change unhelpful thinking that hinders our lives. Another evidence-based intervention, ACT, helps people identify their values, what they consider as important to them. By accepting things that cannot be changed and committing to a value-driven life, one can still find satisfaction in a meaningful life.
